Jessie Bayliss

The Mariners is Paul Ainsworth's public house in Rock, north Cornwall, run in partnership with Sharp's Brewery. I was commissioned to produce a set of nostalgic, characterful spot menu illustrations and hand-lettered titles for the pub.

Working closely with Paul and Emma Ainsworth, the brief extended into a hand-painted 'Story So Far' mural inside the pub and the nautical-themed signage around the building. I drew the illustrations and lettering in pen and ink for print, and worked the mural and signage in the hand-painted paint-on-wall tradition, keeping the same drawing hand across both scales so the identity sat together from menu to wall.

The work appears throughout The Mariners' interior, menus and signage.
